Blue Book: Water, Life, Human Development

ISW and its partners, AfD, PsEau, Eau Vive, ARGOW, SAUR, Protos, Hydroconseil and IEPF have published the Blue Book: water, life,Human Develpment. The book deals with access inequalities to drinking water, productive water, hygiene and the role of the citizen in the decision-making process. Detailed reports (in Frech only) on Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger are at the basis of the Blue Book. Each detailed report was summarized in order to produce the Blue Book. This work will lead to the establishment of country-specific action plans.

The Blue Book was launched on April 20th 2005 during the 13th Commission on Sustainable Development at the United Nations in New York. A Blue Book is available for each country:

An explanatory booklet concerning the Blue book is also available.

Convention on the right to water

ISW, in collaboration with Green Cross International and ALMAE, recently presented Fundamental Principles for a Framework Convention on the Right to Water. This proposition is the result of the work of the World Assembly of Water Wisdom that met in Kyoto (2003) and in Barcelona (2004). The 3rd World Assembly of Water Wisdom, meeting in Mexico City’s Citizen’s House of Water in 2006, will debate a proposition that is, meanwhile, revised in a widen collaborative framework. Other partners will be joining in eventually.
