Participation to the World Water
Week in Stockholm, August 20-26, 2006
During the World Water Week 2006, ISW
and the French Water Academy have presented jointly the
outcomes of the First
International "Water and Film" Event that
took place in Mexico City, March 2006, as part of the
4th World Water Forum.
A booth in the City Conference Center
presented to the participants the Mexico City Event. A
DVD on the Event and the winning films in the categories
"Spots" and "Short Films" was
officially launched on August 23rd, 2006 during a Side
Event. More than 200 participants interested in the
links between water, cinema and cultural diversity
attended the Side Event.
At this occasion, the co-organizers of
the International "Water and Film" Events
announced the preparation of a 2nd International
"Water and Film" Event to be held during the
5th World Water Forum, in March 2009 in Istanbul.

International Learning Workshop on
Contractualization of Municipal Services with special
focus on Water Supply and Sanitation
Montreal, Canada, October 17-20, 2006
The
World Bank Institute (WBI) and the International
Secretariat of Water (ISW),
in collaboration with the Ecole nationale
d’administration publique (ENAP), the City of
Montreal, Metropolis, UNITAR and other partners, have
chosen the subject of contractualization to be at the
heart of an exercise of learning, exchange and
brainstorming.
This exercise, a learning workshop, is expected
to produce the outline of capacity building modules on
contractualization of municipal services to be taught
during national and regional seminars starting in
January 2007, with
special focus on water supply and sanitation (WSS)
adapted to LDCs, targeted at the Middle East and North
Africa (MNA) and Sub-Sahara Africa (SSA) Regions.

Youth Parliaments for Water in
Quebec, spring 2007
ISW, OXFAM-Québec, Cégep
International and the Regroupement des Organismes de
Bassins Versants du Québec (ROBVQ) are organizing
jointly the Youth Parliaments for Water, to be held in
May 2007 in different watersheds of Quebec.

Participation to the 4th World
Water Forum in Mexico City, 2006
ISW
has participated to World Water Forums since their beginning
in 1997, in Marrakech, Morocco. ISW was present at the
2nd World Water Forum in The Hague in 2000 and at the
next one in Kyoto in 2003. ISW organized during
the 4th World Water Forum a Citizen's
House of Water, a
Youth Parliament for Water in Latin America and the
Caribbean (document in
French) and an
International “Water and Film” Event.
ISW was also part of a preparatory process
in Europe. It organized, with other partners, a European
Solidarity Week for Water in October 2006.
ISW, in partnership with the Corporation
des Services Universitaires, Secteur ouest, Côte-Nord,
launched a booklet on "Citizen
Know-How for Water Resource Management in Quebec".

Blue Book: Water, Life, Human Development
ISW
and its partners, AfD,
PsEau, Eau
Vive, ARGOW, SAUR,
Protos, Hydroconseil
and IEPF have published
the Blue Book: water, life,Human Develpment. The book
deals with access inequalities to drinking water, productive
water, hygiene and the role of the citizen in the decision-making
process. Detailed reports (in Frech only) on Burkina
Faso, Mali
and Niger
are at the basis of the Blue Book. Each detailed report
was summarized in order to produce the Blue Book. This
work will lead to the establishment of country-specific
action plans.

The Blue Book was launched
on April 20th 2005 during the 13th Commission on
Sustainable Development at the United Nations in
New York. A Blue Book is available for each country:

Decentralised financial mechanisms
Following the CAMDESSUS
report Nemours
international workshop and the think
tank chaired by ARGOW (in french only)on decentralized
financial and political decision making processes, ISW
plays the role of intermediary between financial organizations
and local initiatives in order to free-up international
decentralized funds. The objective is to compile project
portfolios in East and West Africa for submission to
international institutions such as the European
Union and the African
Development Bank.
